Did My Mattress Just Ruin My Neck?
Anyone else wonder why does my neck hurt after sleeping? I've had this foam mattress for 8 years and it's starting to sag. Yesterday I couldn't even drive to work because turning to check mirrors was painful. My roommate said it's probably the mattress but I'm not sure. Sleep position? Pillow? I sleep on my side mostly. What do you think is the main culprit here?

This sounds a lot like what I dealt with last year. I kept blaming my pillow, but turns out my old foam mattress had sagged just enough to throw my whole alignment off. I’m also a side sleeper, and when the mattress dips, your shoulder sinks and your neck twists all night without you noticing. Woke up stiff almost every morning. What helped me understand it better was this: how to relieve neck pain from sleeping wrong stretches and exercises it breaks down how mattress wear, pillow height, and sleep position all play together. In your case, 8 years + sagging really does sound like a likely culprit.
